The purpose of this qualification is to develop learners’ knowledge, skills and understanding required to work with and support those with learning disabilities. The qualification covers safeguarding, principles of learning disabilities, promotion of positive risk taking, and general support required to work with individuals with learning disabilities. This qualification is suitable for those who wish to expand their knowledge, and for those who are, or wish to work in, health and social settings with a focus on individuals with learning disabilities. This qualification may also be of interest to those who work in the education sector or supporting roles, such as teaching assistants or pastoral care managers.

The purpose of this qualification is to develop learners’ knowledge and understanding of the Prevent duty, British values, safeguarding and online safety. The purpose of the qualification is to develop learners' knowledge, understanding and skills to enable them to uphold British values in their current or future role. This includes developing an understanding of the effects of extremism, radicalisation, and terrorism. The aims are to promote equality, diversity, and social inclusion in the workplace to support the Government’s agenda on tackling radicalisation and extremism. The qualification also develops learners’ knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and online safety. The knowledge and skills developed are appropriate to a wide range of job roles and are relevant to organisations in meeting their statutory requirements under the Prevent Duty. The qualification is appropriate to a wide range of learners especially those on apprenticeship programmes or other training to prepare for work or as part of induction to a job role. It can also be used as part of citizenship programmes for individuals coming to live in the UK.

The purpose of the qualification is to provide learners with an understanding of the signs that an individual may be self-harming or having suicidal thoughts. The qualification will support those in a workplace setting who have safeguarding responsibilities to include: • HR professionals • religious leaders • safeguarding leads (as required by Ofsted) • community leaders • line managers • prison officers • teachers • school support staff • play workers • counsellors • social workers • mental health first aiders • social care workers • support workers. The qualification is also designed to support learners in raising awareness of the subject and to encourage open conversations that could prevent individuals from self-harming or from having suicidal thoughts. Delivery of this qualification in a college or other educational establishment should include facilitating conversations on the subject of self-harm and suicide awareness to take place in a safe and supportive environment.

This qualification aims to develop learners’ knowledge and understanding of: the principles and processes of person-centred thinking, planning and review how to work with individuals to carry out activities specified in their care or support plan, including person-centred assessment, planning, implementation and review the promotion of health and well-being through nutrition and hydration supporting individuals to maintain personal hygiene supporting individuals to manage continence and the use of continence equipment supporting individuals with sleep.
