About the course:
Improver classes are ideal for those who have attended our Beginner level classes and made good progress. Improver level is run for a full academic year and you will maximise your learning if you attend all lessons over three terms. At this level you will, with your peers, have some input into the content of the course. You will continue to learn with our experienced language tutors and those who do best are those who are able to work outside of the classroom to consolidate their learning. At the end of the course you will be able to :Build on Beginners level using present tense in more varied situations • Describe the weather • Tell the time • Describe objects and clothes using adjectives • Make plans for the future • Talk about past actions • Communicate in practical situations e.g. at the doctors/ booking transport. Flexible learning hours of 60 - 90 hours
How will the course be delivered?
Some classes are delivered face to face in a classroom environment. Classes are also delivered online, this means you can learn from the comfort of your own home, or anywhere you can connect to the internet. Adult Learning uses Zoom to deliver blended learning. Your Tutor sends an invitation to join the class each week which ensures that you learn in a safe and supportive environment. We will review our delivery methods throughout the year so we can respond to learner preferences.
What do I need to bring?
You will need a pen and note book for all classes, a bi-lingual dictionary would also be very useful. If you are part of a blended learning class then you will need a stable and reliable internet connection and a device that allows you to connect to this, such as a laptop or tablet ( smart mobile `phones are not suitable). It is recommended that you have a quiet area of your home to work from so you get the best learning experience. The tutor will advise you if there is anything specific that you need to join our languages classes.
What are the entry requirements?
Ideally learners will have completed the Beginners level course within the last 1-2 years or be able to show equivalent knowledge and skills eg. from other prior learning, including exposure to the Spanish language. An initial assessment will be carried out to check that this is the right course for you.
What can I do next?
You may wish to progress to the Spanish Intermediate course
How well am I doing?
You will agree targets for yourself and your group with the Tutor. You will receive regular verbal and written feedback so you can judge how well you are progressing. You will also have a Individual Progress Record, this will allow you to review your progress with your tutor at regular intervals and give you an opportunity to add new challenges.
Additional transferable skills:
Independent study skills – as you work outside of the classroom to improve your knowledge and skills. Patience – absolutely essential, it takes time, effort and lots of repetition and practice.
• Cultural understanding – learning more about other countries, their customs and their way of life.
• Coaching & mentoring skills – You will develop these as you work alongside and support your peers. Your knowledge of grammatical norms in English and your additional language will be enhanced through comparing and contrasting rules and norms.
