About the course:

Classes are ideal for those who have attended our Intermediates and Year 1 of our Upper Intermediate level classes and have made good progress. The Upper Intermediates level is run for a full academic year, and you will maximise your learning if you attend all lessons over three terms. At this level you will, with your peers, have some input into the content of the course. You will continue to learn with our experienced language tutors and those who progress most are those who are able to work outside of the classroom to consolidate their learning.

How will the course be delivered?

This class will be delivered online, this means you can learn from the comfort of your own home, or anywhere you can connect to the internet. Adult Learning uses Zoom to deliver blended learning. Your Tutor sends an invitation to join the class each week which ensures that you learn in a safe and supportive environment.

*This is an online course delivered using Zoom, in real time with live interaction with your tutor and fellow learners. Learners will join the class from home and be able to exchange and interact with other learners as they would in the classroom (speaking and listening). Learners will be required to turn on their camera throughout the session for safeguarding compliance. There will be a discussion and demonstration. You will have opportunities to discuss and ask questions- this is an interactive course with the Tutor present throughout.

What do I need to bring?

You will need a pen and notebook for all classes, a bi-lingual dictionary would also be very useful. If you are part of an online learning class then you will need a stable and reliable internet connection and a device that allows you to connect to this, such as a laptop or tablet (smart mobile `phones are not suitable). It is recommended that you have a quiet area of your home to work from so you get the best learning experience. The tutor will advise you if there is anything specific that you need to join our languages classes.

What are the entry requirements?

Ideally learners will have completed the Intermediate and Year 1 of the Upper intermediate level courses within the last 1-2 years or be able to show equivalent knowledge and skills e.g. from other prior learning, including exposure to the Japanese language. An initial assessment will be carried out to check that this is the right course for you.

What can I do next?

You may be interested in other languages that Adult Learning offers, such as French and Spanish. Alternatively, you may wish to study something from our wider offer such as English, maths, Health and Wellbeing and Employability courses. Please ask your tutor or a member of our centre team.

How well am I doing?

You will agree targets for yourself and your group with the Tutor. You will receive regular verbal and written feedback so you can judge how well you are progressing. You will also have a Individual Progress Record, this will allow you to review your progress with your tutor at regular intervals and give you an opportunity to add new challenges.
