About the course:

If English is not your first language and you want to gain confidence in reading, writing, speaking and listening in English, then join this course to develop your skills in English. You will learn the vocabulary you need to read, write and communicate. You will have opportunities to practise reading, writing, speaking and listening through a range of engaging activities. You will also gain confidence in maths, British Values and Health and Well-being. You will find out more about services and facilities in your local area through talks from guest speakers, for example GPs, pharmacies and other local organisations. You will study in a small and friendly class of learners from different cultures.

How will the course be delivered?

Your tutor will use a variety of teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles to ensure you achieve your full potential. This course will be taught in a relaxed and informal atmosphere, where your individual needs are catered for. Teaching and learning are carried out through informally taught sessions, discussion, and group work, supported with worksheets, activity cards, games evaluation and feedback. We will work with you in a fun and supportive way, designed to help you improve your skills and knowledge quickly.

What are the entry requirements?

We welcome learners of all levels to this course, you do not have to have studied with our service before. Before you can enrol, you will need to have an initial assessment to assess your current ESOL level. We have staff and tutors who can help you with this to make sure we know what you want from this programme.

What can I do next?

This course will prepare you to start either join a qualification course or further community learning in English for Speakers of other Languages. At the end of the course you will complete an initial assessment to find out which level and course is right for you to move on.

How well am I doing?

You will receive regular feedback from the tutor and an individual progress record. You will be supported to set targets in your individual progress record so you can keep track of your achievements.

Additional transferable skills:

You will further improve your team working skills by working with your peers. You will also develop independent study skills as you complete work outside of the classroom. Your time management skills will also be enhanced. Your self confidence will increase as your skill level improves. You will improve your resilience as you work to overcome challenges in the classroom. Your communication skills will also be enhanced as you speak with your tutor, peers and guest speakers. You will improve your knowledge and understanding of Life in the UK and your rights and responsibilities. You will have improved awareness of key terms and practices, for example British Values, Safeguarding and Prevent.
