About the course:
Functional Skills Maths Level 2 is designed to equip you with the skills you need to operate confidently, effectively and independently in education, work and everyday life.
The course will help to develop your skills in:
1. Basic mathematical operations
2. Fractions, decimals and percentages
3. Ratio and proportion
4. Calculating with time and timetables
5. Measuring in metric units
6. Calculating perimeter and area
7. Reading/drawing charts
8. Calculating averages and range
9. Calculating probabilities
Homework is given where appropriate and you are expected to attend every week. You will have access to computer resources to support and develop your learning.
This course is suitable for you if:
1. You are seeking employment or career advancement.
2. You wish to follow specific career training which requires L2 for entry. 3. You wish to access Higher Education.
How will the course be delivered?
The course will be delivered over 18 weeks (one session per week). The sessions will take the form of presentations, question and answers, discussion and group and paired activities, in an informal environment.
These are supported with material from work books, websites and test practice questions.
This course may be delivered face-to-face or online, via Zoom.
What do I need to bring?
Scientific calculator, Protractor, Pair of compasses, Pen, pencils, ruler, eraser, notebook and folder
What are the entry requirements?
Functional Skills Maths Level 1 and /or completion of initial and diagnostic assessments. It is also preferable that your level of English is at least one level higher than the level of maths you plan to take.
What can I do next?
You could progress to GCSE Maths (preceded by 'Step Up to GCSE Maths' if necessary to bridge the gap) or alternatively you could do Functional Skills English.
How well am I doing?
You will be assessed throughout the course and regular feedback given on your progress.
