About the course:
Functional Skills Maths qualifications are designed to equip you with the basic skills you need to operate confidently, effectively and independently in education, work and everyday life. You can study for these qualifications in practical ways and apply these skills to real-life situations.
The course will help to develop your skills in:
1. Adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing
2. Use of simple fractions
3. Use of decimals (money)
4. Recognising number patterns
5. Working with time
6. Measuring using metric units
7. Recognise and name common 2D & 3D shapes
8. Interpret information from simple lists, charts and graphs
Homework is given if appropriate and you are expected to attend every week.You will have access to computer resources if desired, to support and develop your learning.
This course is suitable for you if:
1. You would like to become more confident with maths skills used in everyday life.
2. You would like to achieve a nationally recognised qualification.
3. You would like the personal challenge of improving your maths skills.
How will the course be delivered?
The course will be delivered over 18 weeks (one session per week).
The sessions will take the form of presentations, question and answers, discussion and group and paired activities, in an informal environment. These are supported with material from work books, websites and test practice questions.
What do I need to bring?
Pen, pencil, ruler, eraser, notebook and folder
What are the entry requirements?
Completion of initial and diagnostic assessments to check what level you are working at and evidence of any previous functional skills passes eg. Functional Skills Maths Entry Level 2.
What can I do next?
You could progress to Functional Skills Maths L1, (preceded by small group learning if necessary to bridge the gap) or alternatively, you could do Functional Skills English.
How well am I doing?
You will be assessed throughout the course and regular feedback given on your progress.
