About the course:

This is a full year course and is ideal for beginners or those wishing to re-learn a language from scratch. At the end of the course you will be able to: introduce yourself and give and understand personal information; confidently order food and drinks; count up to 100, purchase items from markets and shops; book a hotel room or holiday accommodation; use the present tense to talk about your hobbies and daily activities; give and follow directions and ask basic questions. Most of all you will have fun working with an experienced and enthusiastic tutor, who knows you may discover you have a linguistic talent and you may wish to continue your learning journey with Adult Learning. Flexible learning hours of 60 - 90 hours.

How will the course be delivered?

Some classes are delivered face to face in a classroom environment. Classes are also delivered online, this means you can learn from the comfort of your own home, or anywhere you can connect to the internet. Adult Learning uses Zoom to deliver blended learning. Your Tutor sends an invitation to join the class each week which ensures that you learn in a safe and supportive environment. We will review our delivery methods throughout the year so we can respond to learner preferences.
*This is an online course delivered using Zoom, in real time with live interaction with your tutor and fellow learners. Learners will join the class from home and be able to exchange and interact with other learners as they would in the classroom (speaking and listening). Learners will be required to turn on their camera throughout the session for safeguarding compliance. There will be a discussion and demonstration. You will have opportunities to discuss and ask questions- this is an interactive course with the Tutor present throughout.

What do I need to bring?

You will need a pen and note book for all classes, a bi-lingual dictionary would also be very useful. If you are part of a blended learning class then you will need a stable and reliable internet connection and a device that allows you to connect to this, such as a laptop or tablet ( smart mobile `phones are not suitable). It is recommended that you have a quiet area of your home to work from so you get the best learning experience. The tutor will advise you if there is anything specific that you need to join our languages classes.

What are the entry requirements?

There are no entry requirements for this course, just a willingness to be involved and enthusiastic. This is also ideal for learners progressing from our short Introductory language classes.

What can I do next?

You may wish to progress to our French Improvers class.

How well am I doing?

You will agree targets for yourself and your group with the Tutor. You will receive regular verbal and written feedback so you can judge how well you are progressing. You will also have a Individual Progress Record, this will allow you to review your progress with your tutor at regular intervals and give you an opportunity to add new challenges.

Additional transferable skills:

Independent study skills – as you work outside of the classroom to improve your knowledge and skills. Patience – absolutely essential, it takes time, effort and lots of repetition and practice.

• Cultural understanding – learning more about other countries, their customs and their way of life.
• Coaching & mentoring skills – You will develop these as you work alongside and support your peers.
