About the course:
Many people struggle with ideas for cooking a variety of nutritious meals on a small budget. Whether you have supermarket shopping, local shopping, food bank or donated food, or a combination of all of them, this course introduces you to how to cook healthy, interesting meals for yourself and/or your family within your budget.
You will learn how to choose and measure ingredients, safely prepare and save food, safely use cooking equipment, time your cooking, and present and eat your finished meal. This course is suitable if you are new to cooking for yourself and/or your family or have spent a period of time not cooking and want to refresh your skills.
How will the course be delivered?
Your course will be taught in one of our local learning spaces. The sessions will include preparing and making food and sharing good practice. We will have discussions and you will have short tasks to complete. You will receive materials and ideas to keep, to help you with budgeting in the future.
What do I need to bring?
All equipment and ingredients will be provided. If you have one, please bring an apron.
What are the entry requirements?
There are no entry requirements for this course apart from and open mind and a willingness to try new things!
What can I do next?
On completion of this course you can progress to a range of other courses and workshops including courses on mindfulness, personal development, communication and self-esteem. You could enrol on our Introduction to Food Safety course which can lead on to a food safety qualification. You may also choose to progress to an English, maths or IT course.
How well am I doing?
Your tutor will tell you how you are doing in the sessions and your progress will be recorded in your Individual Progress Record. You will work with your tutor to identify any particular areas that you want to improve and your tutor will support you achieve your goals.
