About the course:
The course will introduce you to the basic skills of sketching in preparation for watercolour painting. Each week will focus on a different theme and skill:For example, sketching the main shapes in a landscape, enlarging a photograph using a grid and focussing on positive and negative shapes when sketching and painting plants. With step-by-step instructions, demonstrations and exercises, you will create your own sketches and drawings on a range of subjects, which you can then apply watercolour washes and layers on top.
How will the course be delivered?
Through detailed step-by-step demonstrations, discussions and regular support and encouragement.
What do I need to bring?
A set of watercolour materials including an A4 or larger sketchbook of watercolour paper, a small set of watercolours, a range or pencils (HB, 2B and 4B), masking tape, a board to tape your paper on, kitchen towel, a large brush, a smaller brush, a waterproof black ink pen and other materials you like to use and experiment with in your paintings.
What are the entry requirements?
No formal entry requirements. However, a little knowledge of watercolour painting would be useful and a willingness to experiment.
