About the course:
Each session will start with tips and suggestions for the weekly focus, from sketching the mountains, the trees or on how to create a successful composition from what's in front of you. Weather permitting, you will go outside, stopping at various points to sketch and develop your sketch book. Demonstrations, guidance and encouragement will be provided by the tutor to help you develop your confidence at sketching and painting the landscape. You will use a viewfinder to frame the landscape with the aim being to get the main features of a scene down, rather than to create finished painting. Hopefully, you will then have confidence to carry on sketching and painting 'plein-air' yourself in your own time.
How will the course be delivered?
Through detailed step-by-step demonstrations, discussions and regular support and encouragement.
What do I need to bring?
A basic sketching and painting kit: A4 or A5 sketch book capable of taking a watercolour wash, a board to rest on, 2B or similar pencil, eraser, pencil sharpener, piece or charcoal, a small portable set of watercolours, a small pot for water, masking tape to tape pages together if windy, a small bag to carry kit, suitable footware and clothing for walking, including a coat.
What are the entry requirements?
No formal entry requirements. However, a little knowledge of watercolour painting would be useful and a willingness to experiment and to go outside.
