About the course:

The course will focus on developing skills through experimentation. Each week will focus on a different theme or skill; tone, form, drawing objects, perspective, texture, sketching and develop our range of drawing media. With step-by-step instructions, you will learn to experiment with different techniques and be shown how these methods can be used to develop skills and create lively drawings. For inspiration, we will also look at several examples from famous artists and analyse the techniques they've used to create their drawings.

How will the course be delivered?

This course will be delivered online using Zoom. You will need a stable internet connection on a good-sized screen and a camera or microphone. The course will be taught by local artist Christine Stanford who has over 20 years experience in mixed media and regularly exhibits her stunning creations.

*This is an online course delivered using Zoom, in real time with live interaction with your tutor and fellow learners. Learners will join the class from home and be able to exchange and interact with other learners as they would in the classroom (speaking and listening). Learners will be required to turn on their camera throughout the session for safeguarding compliance. There will be a discussion and demonstration. You will have opportunities to discuss and ask questions- this is an interactive course with the Tutor present throughout.

What do I need to bring?

Pencils, rubber, ruler, sketch book and paper. Christine will advise you after enrolment.

What are the entry requirements?

You will need fairly good drawing skills and want to build on them, by challenging yourself to try out different styles and techniques. Being open to more than traditional drawing methods is an essential.

What can I do next?

An intermediate Drawing course in September 2025.

How well am I doing?

Your tutor will tell you how you are doing in your lessons and your progress will be recorded in your Individual Progress Record. You will work with your tutor to identify any areas that you want to improve, and your tutor will support you to achieve your goals.
