About the course:

Whether you already enjoy writing and are looking for some new directions, or are a complete novice wishing to try it out, this course is for you. It will stimulate your imagination and teach you new tricks to elevate your own creative writing interests. On the course we can • explore ideas on given themes • look at what makes a good story • read and write different types of writing • keep up to date with competitions • important points when sending work out for publication • share good ideas and give supportive feedback to each other Note - sometimes we share writing but no one is ever forced to read out if they don’t want to. That way, you can write more naturally.

How will the course be delivered?

This is a face-to-face course at the Kendal Library, delivered over 4 sessions, each lasting 2 hours on a Tuesday afternoon . We will look at different writing styles and genres and use them as models to write as a group and individually.

What do I need to bring?

Just bring your favourite pen! Also paper or a notepad for the writing prompts we will do.

What are the entry requirements?

A genuine interest in creative writing (this can include things like short stories, magazine articles, journalling, poetry, novels, flash fiction). Basic written English skills.

What can I do next?

You may wish to move on to our beginners creative writing course, or move on to Functional Skills or GCSE English qualifications.

How well am I doing?

Your tutor will give you verbal and written feedback throughout the course.
