About the course:
Would you like to learn how to paint in watercolours? You will learn how to paint nature and landscapes. You will learn beginners’ techniques, first trying out colour mixing and colour theory, testing out small samples and sketches from nature including how to paint trees, flowers, leaves, and sky. We will learn how to paint a simple lake district landscape scene using these skills and then move onto painting flowers and foliage, painting birds and coastal landscapes. The course is a five-week course.
How will the course be delivered?
Our tutor Jenny will guide you through and demonstrate the processes. There will be lots of support and encouragement. Jenny has been an illustrator and designer for over ten years and has illustrated in watercolour for The National Trust, for fabric design for children’s clothing and for packaging design, as well as painting lake district landscapes.
What do I need to bring?
You will need a set of quality watercolours containing 12 colours such as Cotman watercolours or Windsor and Newton watercolours, plus a sketchbook of watercolour paper or loose sheets of watercolour paper. Around 300gm is a good thickness of paper for most activities. You will also need some brushes, sizes 4, 6 and 10 would be useful. A pot or jar for water, sketching pencils- 2B and 4B, an eraser and a flat plate or colour mixing palette to mix your paints on.
