About the course

This beginner level course is for you if you would like to improve your knowledge of, and confidence in, using money for shopping and everyday transactions. You will be supported by one of our experienced ESOL Tutors in a classroom with your peers. You will learn to: Recognise money; You will develop a glossary for relevant terms, words and phrases associated with money; Identify the names of places to shop and what to buy there; Be able to name shopping items and ask for items in a shop; Be able to count the number of items purchased; Be able to add and subtract payments to ensure you receive the correct change in cash transactions; Be able to use weights accurately in conversation; Be able to use measures accurately in conversation; Be able to compare offers when shopping.

How the course will be delivered

The course will be taught in a classroom by one of our ESOL tutors. You will work with other people at the same level as you so you can enjoy learning together. You will work with a tutor to agree targets for you to improve your English and these will be reviewed regularly. When you have achieved targets agreed with the tutor you can set some more to stretch your knowledge.

There are no entry requirements for this course. It might be useful to have completed the following courses : Reading and Writing for Pre-Entry Learners, First Steps into English.
