About the course:
Up cycle textiles to create a useful home item - a cushion cover or utility pouch. This course develops your skills and confidence in hand sewing or with your sewing machine, learning simple techniques that you can apply to other sewing projects as you build your confidence.
How will the course be delivered?
This course is face to face, a practical series of workshops guided by our textile tutor. This course will be delivered by our highly experienced textiles tutor Claire Trelfa, the Community Learning and Skills tutor for Textiles. Claire has 20 years’ experience in teaching fashion and textiles and is a textile creative practitioner.
What do I need to bring?
Please bring your sewing machine, thread to sew with, and scissors. Please bring an old textiles such as clothing or duvet cover/pillow cases (any size, as you are going to cut up and re purpose). A small plain paper journal or sketch book to note-take.
What are the entry requirements?
A desire to learn to sew with old textile scraps, creating a new re purposed item to love and enjoy - being creative is all you need. You’ll learn sewing skills as the course develops.
How well am I doing?
Your tutor will tell you how you are doing in the lessons and your progress will be recorded in your Individual Progress Record along with your creative examples you have done. You will work with your tutor to identify any particular areas that you want to improve and your tutor will support you to achieve your goals.
