About the course:
We begin with an informal chat to understand your drawing experience, artistic influences and take a quick look at the art I make and how I have been taught. There will be several exercises to assess your initial drawing level. Over the duration of the course you will develop portrait and figure drawing in various dry mediums, using the sight-size and comparative measurement techniques. While simultaneously strengthening compositional skills for still life, landscape and figurative work. Bring previous work if you’d like for discussion in a supportive studio setting. This is a course that is run over 3 terms, but you sign up termly.
How will the course be delivered?
The lesson will be face-to-face in a classroom. Before the session, the tutor will send you by email essential lesson information/handouts for you to consult in advance.
What do I need to bring?
You need to bring: A4 sketchbook, 2B pencils, any charcoal, charcoal pencils or pastel pencils you may already own already, masking tape, tracing paper, Faber Castell kneadable eraser. Other materials will be necessary as the course progresses, but the tutor will advise you to avoid you making any unnecessary purchases. We will use an optional drawing textbook so you can explore concepts further beyond the class. We will discuss this at our first class.
What are the entry requirements?
You need to be able to draw to a basic level. This course is a follow-on from Beginners Drawing (a 3-term course). However, you do not have to have attended this course to come. It will not be suitable for absolute beginners.
What can I do next?
Enrol on the Improvers Drawing Summer course.
How well am I doing?
Learners will receive lots of feedback each session. At the start they will complete some exercises and we will identify the skills you need to progress on an individual learning plan. We will revisit this during the course so you can see how you are progressing.
