About the course
This course is for learners who already paint using watercolour and would like to develop their work further. Through suggested exercises and ideas, you will develop your painting skills by working on a chosen idea or theme. You will experiment with different techniques and colour palettes to produce a series of linked paintings. For example, your chosen theme could be trees with the aim to produce a series of watercolour paintings of the same tree during different seasons or you might prefer animals, and create a series of animal paintings. The course will help you to look closely at the way you paint and how you want to paint. In discussions with the tutor, you will try and identify artists who work in a similar way to you and to use their work as inspiration. You will identify aspect of your work that you want to develop and take further. Each week, will focus on exercises to help you develop your style and the themes you want to paint.
How the course will be delivered
Through detailed step-by-step demonstrations, discussions and regular support and encouragement.
What you'll need to bring
A set of watercolour materials including an A4 or larger sketchbook of watercolour paper, a small set of your preferred watercolours, a pencil, masking tape, a water container, mixing palette or plate, a board to tape your paper on, kitchen towel, a range of brushes and other materials you like to use. Other materials will be provided for you to experiment with.
Entry requirements
No formal entry requirements. However, it is a course for more experienced watercolourists or learners who have attended previous improvers or intermediate watercolour courses.
