About the course:

On this course we will build on basic painting skills with a focus on using paint in a loose and expressive way. You’ll learn how to paint winter trees, capture the colour of shadows, and thoughtfully consider composition. By closely observing light, shadow, and shape, we’ll work on conveying the atmosphere of a winter’s landscape. Towards the end of the course, we will have some fun using the skills learned to create some festive watercolour pieces, such as cards and gift tags.

How will the course be delivered?

You will be taught by Karen our highly qualified art tutor. The course will be delivered via a mixture of tutor demonstration, discussion and experimentation, building your confidence and leading towards an independently created final piece of artwork.

What do I need to bring?

There is no need to buy any materials ahead of the course, basic resources to get you started will be supplied and as the course progresses Karen will discuss with you the most suitable equipment and materials to buy to help you continue on your artistic journey.

What are the entry requirements?

Some experience of painting with watercolours is advisable. Ideally you will have completed a beginners watercolour course within the last 1-2 years or be able to show equivalent knowledge and skills e.g. from other prior learning.

What can I do next?

You can continue your art journey with any of the other classes we have on offer. This could lead to an art course focusing on a specific skill or technique or a creative arts qualification. Information, advice & guidance is available from your tutor to help identify the best follow-on course for you.

How well am I doing?

Throughout the course your tutor will give you feedback and encouragement. You will also complete an Individual Progress Report (IPR) to track your progress.
