About the course:

You will learn how to simplify an image and to add watercolour layers whilst keeping your painting looking fresh and vibrant. We will look at how famous artists have applied layers successfully and apply similar techniques to our own work. Each week will focus on a different theme and start with several practice exercises to further develop your colour mixing skills and colour theory knowledge.

How will the course be delivered?

Through detailed step-by-step demonstrations, discussions and regular support and encouragement.

What do I need to bring?

A basic set of watercolour materials including an A4 or larger sketchbook of watercolour paper, a small set of watercolours, a pencil, masking tape, a water container, mixing palette or plate, a board to tape your paper on, kitchen towel, a large brush and a smaller brush. Other materials will be provided for you to experiment with.

What are the entry requirements?

No formal entry requirements. It is a course for learners who have basic knowledge of watercolour or who have attended previous beginners or improvers watercolour courses.

How well am I doing?

Your tutor will tell you how you are doing in the sessions and your progress will be recorded in your Individual Progress Record. You will work with your tutor to identify any particular areas that you want to improve and your tutor will support you achieve your goals.
