About the course:
You will be introduced to a range of artists who use mixed media techniques to create exciting textures and compositions. The course will focus on experimenting with different water-colour techniques (sea salt, cling-film, wet-in-wet, wax resist, scraping, granulation fluid etc…) and how to combine these with different media. We will look at using inks, oil pastels, water-colour pencils, gesso, charcoal and collage. With step-by-step instructions and suggestions, you will be shown how these can be used to develop textures and atmosphere in paintings.How will the course be delivered?
Through detailed step-by-step demonstrations, discussions and regular support and encouragement.
What do I need to bring?
A basic set of watercolour materials including an A4 or larger sketchbook of watercolour paper, a small set of watercolours, a pencil, black or blue-black ink, a waterproof black pen, masking tape, a water container, mixing palette or plate, a board to tape your paper on, kitchen towel, a large brush and a smaller brush. Other mixed-media materials will be provided for you to experiment with and explained to you on the first week, should you wish to buy your own.
What are the entry requirements?
No formal entry requirements. It is a course for learners who have some basic knowledge of watercolour techniques or have attended previous beginner watercolour courses.
