About the course:
This course develops the basic skills needed to navigate safely in the hills using a map and compass. You will plot a short walking route between numerous features primarily on paths using time and distance and terrain features. There will be discussion regarding hazard identification – terrain, weather, and incidents. By the end of the course, you will know how to take bearings, calculate time taken to travel and determine a suitable and safe route through high fells terrain using map and compass.How will the course be delivered?
You will spend 5.5 hours outdoors at Pooley Bridge supported by a highly experienced tutor.
What do I need to bring?
Warm and waterproof clothing plus a spare warm layer and footwear suitable for a day on the fells relevant to the forecast. Lunch and drink or snacks. Camera / phone. 1:25000 map Ordnance Survey Lake District sheets four North West and five North East and small Silva compass. Whistle. Medium sized rucksack.
