About the course:
This is a one year highly intensive course and is free to those who have not previously achieved an 9-4 (old A*- C) grade in GCSE Maths. The course covers the following main areas: 1. Number 2. Algebra 3. Ratio, proportion and rates of change 4. Geometry and measures 5. Probability 6. Statistics There is significant homework attached to the course, ranging from approx. 2 - 5 hours per week and you are expected to attend every week. This course is suitable for you if: 1. You are seeking employment or career advancement 2. You would like to access Higher Education 3. You would like to be able to help your children with their maths school homework] 4. You would like the personal challenge of achieving Maths GCSE Would potential GCSE learners please note that Adult Education believes that in order for learners to focus fully on subject content and to give learners the best opportunity to meet their own potential in a GCSE subject; it is strongly recommended that learners only enrol on ONE GCSE programme per academic year. If you believe that you are able to commit the time and effort to study both subjects in one academic year could you please make an appointment to discuss this further with your Centre Manager.How will the course be delivered?
The course will be delivered over 90 hours over 30 weeks (one 3 hour session per week), plus additional support workshops (15-30hrs). The sessions will take the form of presentations, question and answers, discussion and group and paired activities, in an informal environment. These are supported with material from recommended textbooks, work books, websites and exam practice questions.
What do I need to bring?
Scientific calculator (tutor can advise first week of course), protractor, pair of compasses, pen, pencils, ruler, eraser, notebook and folder.
What are the entry requirements?
A previous achievement of grade 3 (old D) and/or completion of initial Graded Assessment. You need a good level of English skills so you can follow spoken and written instructions and read handouts and text books.
What can I do next?
You could progress to HE, or if you haven't achieved GCSE English language, you could do Functional Skills English, leading to a GCSE in English Language. You could also progress into work.
How well am I doing?
You will be assessed throughout the course and regular feedback given on your progress.
