About the course:

The Ascentis ESOL Skills for Life qualifications are based on the National Standards for Adult Literacy and are closely related to the ESOL Core Curriculum. They are designed specifically for people living in Britain and focus on preparing learners for the world of work or citizenship. The primary aim of the Ascentis ESOL Skills for Life qualifications is to assist you in becoming independent of others (such as interpreters or translators; be they professionals, family or friends) when interacting with native English-speakers, both in a work environment and elsewhere. By improving your communication and fluency in English, you will significantly improve your employability skills and opportunities.

How will the course be delivered?

Your tutor will use a variety of teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles to ensure you achieve your full potential. This course will be taught in a relaxed and informal atmosphere, where your individual needs are catered for. Teaching, learning and assessment are carried out through taught sessions, discussion, and group work,. Your learning journey is supported with worksheets, role-play, activity cards, games, practise papers, homework, evaluation and feedback. You must be able to complete work outside of class time to complete home work and independent study and access to a laptop or tablet would be useful. Adult Learning offers a lap top loan scheme, if you are interested in this please speak to a member of your local centre staff.

What do I need to bring?

Pen, Notepad and Folder

What are the entry requirements?

No previous formal qualifications are required for entry to these qualifications at Level 2. Before you can enrol, you will need to have an initial assessment to make sure the course is suitable for you. You can contact your centre to arrange for this to take place. If you already study with us, your current tutor can help you.

What can I do next?

This course will get you on the next step towards Level 1 or 2 English Functional skills qualifications. You may also want to explore opportunities in other curricula such as maths, employability and digital skills.

How well am I doing?

You will receive regular written and verbal feedback from the tutor to support your learning journey and you will develop an individual progress record. You will set targets so you can keep track of your achievements. Formal assessments on each unit of study are provided by the awarding body; these are then scheduled according to need. They are marked by the tutor and graded pass or fail. The results are then verified by an internal quality assurer and an external verifier.

Additional transferable skills:

You will further improve your teamworking skills by working with your peers. You will also develop independent study skills as you complete work outside of the classroom. Your time management skills will also be enhanced. Your self confidence will increase as your skills level improves.
