About the course:
Unit 1 summary:
In this unit, learners will learn about the core counselling skills such as unconditional positive regard, genuineness, empathetic understanding and active listening. They will then begin to look at establishing a helping relationship, including establishing boundaries and objectives. Finally they will learn how to conclude a helping interaction, including the evaluation of process and how to end with a positive impact.
Unit 2 summary:
In this unit, learners will look at counselling theories such as psycho dynamic and person-centred. They will move on to understand how counselling theory underpins the use of counselling skills.
Unit 3 summary:
In Unit 3 learners will examine the importance of an ethical framework in counselling. They will then look at the meaning of discrimination and what anti-discriminatory practice means. Finally, they will learn about addressing difference and diversity in counselling practice.
Unit 4 summary:
In the final unit learners will consider their personal values and qualities and their relevance to helping roles. They will look at how to meet own support needs and use self-reflection for personal development before concluding with using core counselling skills in a helping relationship.
