About the course

On this course you’ll be introduced to the basic techniques and designs of this traditional form of textile decoration. Boro is a traditional Japanese way to mend clothing, Sashiko is a way of decorating fabric by sewing small, repetitive stitches. You will learn how to combine both these skills to create exciting contemporary textile pieces and clothing embellishments.

How the course will be delivered

Your tutor, Karen, holds a degree in textile design and has over 25 years of experience in education. Throughout the course, she will provide constructive feedback and support to help you develop your skills and confidence. The course will be delivered through a blend of tutor demonstrations, group discussions, and hands-on experimentation, allowing you to explore and refine your artistic practice.

What you'll need to bring

There’s no need to purchase materials before the course begins. Basic resources will be provided to get you started, and Karen will guide you in selecting the most suitable materials to continue your creative textile journey.
