About the course

The session will start with tips and suggestions on how to simplify the landscape, from quick sketching using different media, thumbnail sketches, the use of note taking and recording observations. We will look at how different artists use sketchbooks to explore and develop ideas and drawings. Weather permitting, there may be an opportunity to go outside and try out the skills taught. You will also be introduced to different sketchbook formats. Demonstrations, guidance and encouragement will be provided by the tutor to help you develop your confidence.

Through detailed step-by-step demonstrations, discussions and regular support and encouragement.

What you'll need to bring

A small sketchbook and pencil. As this is a beginners course, a selection of other materials will be provided for you to use. Please bring warm clothes, suitable footwear and a coat for the possibility of going outside, weather permitting.

Entry requirements

No formal entry requirements. It is a beginners course for learners who want to learn the basics and have a willingness to experiment.
