About the course:

Discover the basics of drawing and painting still life with a focus on surfaces and texture, in this beginner-friendly course. Throughout the course, you will learn how to observe and depict various surfaces and textures, from the smoothness of glass to the roughness of wood. You will explore different mediums, including pencils, charcoal, and paints, to understand how each can be used to create realistic and expressive still life compositions. The course will cover essential topics such as composition, light and shadow, perspective, and colour theory. You will engage in hands-on exercises and projects that will help you develop your skills and confidence. By the end of the course, you will have a portfolio of still life artworks that showcase your ability to capture the beauty and intricacies of different surfaces and textures.

How will the course be delivered?

This course will be delivered face to face by our amazing Art tutor Amy. There will be a mixture of tutor demonstration, discussion and hands-on creative activities to help you develop your skills and confidence.

What do I need to bring?

All equipment will be provided, but if you have good quality pencils, pens, or paints, feel free to bring these with you.

What are the entry requirements?

This class is suitable for complete beginners or those with some experience; all you need is a passion for art and a creative mindset.
