About the course:

This beginner-friendly course introduces the fundamentals of drawing and painting faces, designed to help you build confidence in your artistic skills. Each session focuses on key aspects of portrait creation, starting with understanding facial proportions and the placement of features, progressing to shading techniques and capturing expression and emotion. You’ll explore facial anatomy, learn how light and shadow add depth, and experiment with colour mixing for realistic skin tones—all in a supportive, step-by-step environment tailored for beginners. Perfect for those just starting their creative journey, this course will guide you towards creating your very first portrait.

How will the course be delivered?

This course will be delivered face to face by our amazing Art tutor Amy. There will be a mixture of tutor demonstration, discussion and hands-on creative activities to help you develop your skills and confidence.

What do I need to bring?

All equipment will be provided, but if you have good quality pencils, pens, or paints, feel free to bring these with you.

What are the entry requirements?

This class is suitable for complete beginners or those with some experience; all you need is a passion for portraiture and a creative mindset.
