About the course:

You will be introduced to a range of artists, who focus on drawing in their paintings. The course will encourage you to experiment with lots of different materials and paints whilst keeping a focus on drawing. You will learn basic colour mixing skills and look at combining more traditional drawing media (graphite, pencils, charcoal, pastels) with different paints, from watercolour, acrylics and coloured inks. The aim is to really enjoy being creative whilst trying out different painting mediums. This allows you to decide whether these paints are for you before making expensive purchases. With step-by-step instructions and suggestions, learners will be shown how to combine techniques and materials to develop textures, atmosphere and interest in paintings.

How will the course be delivered?

Through detailed step-by-step demonstrations, examples, discussions and regular support and encouragement.

What do I need to bring?

Basic sketching and drawing materials: A4 watercolour paper or mixed media paper, a range of drawing pencils (HB, 2B, 4B and 6B), eraser, pencil sharpener, piece of charcoal. Each week, access to the relevant paints required will be provided for you to try. However, feel free to bring along any other materials you may have which you think may be useful.

What are the entry requirements?

No formal entry requirements. The course is perfect for people who have some basic knowledge of drawing but would like to try incorporating different paints too.
