About the course:

The Entry Level 3 Skills for the Creative Industries course gives you an opportunity to develop your practical arts skills, knowledge of the work of artists, and studio health and safety skills. You will work with a range of media including drawing, painting, textiles and printmaking and cover topics such as colour theory, composition and inspiration. You will learn how to develop your ideas through the use of sketchbooks and how to reflect on your work and plan for future development. You will also work with others in small groups to develop ideas together which is a key creative skill. The course is portfolio based, this means that you complete coursework and assessments throughout the course and there is no final examination. There is an expectation that you will work on your ideas and sketchbook between lessons. Throughout the course your tutor will give you feedback on your progress and help you set your own learning goals.

How will the course be delivered?

This 50-hour face to face course is delivered by our highly experienced arts tutor. Lessons will be largely practical, you will explore a range of media, learn about the work of a range of artists and develop your own personal projects throughout three portfolio units. You will regularly review your work with your classmates and tutor and work independently on your projects between lessons.

What do I need to bring?

You will need some art materials as the course progresses and your tutor will talk to you about these in the first lesson.

What are the entry requirements?

There are no formal entry requirements but you should have a keen interest in art and artists. The course is a good progression from beginners level art or Arts for Wellbeing courses with Adult Learning.

What can I do next?

You may want to progress to a college level art course or to one of a wide range of arts courses offered by Adult Learning.

How well am I doing?

Your progress and achievement in each unit will be tracked by you and your tutor through awarding body paperwork and your Individual Progress Review (IPR). You will have regular discussions with your tutor about your learning and set your own personal learning goals.
